Midpoint attractor models resolve the mid‐elevation peak in Himalayan plant species richness

چکیده

The midpoint attractor (MPA) models of species richness integrate a unimodal environmental favourability gradient and neutral effects forced by geometric constraints thus extend the ecologically mid-domain model. However, both alternative MPA algorithms assume that underlying peaks within modelling domain. Here, we used elevational distribution data for 1054 plant occurring in northwest Himalaya to explore gradients performance groups defined biogeography, taxonomy life-form. achieved an excellent fit, but two produced contrasting estimates location, especially with originating lowlands. Therefore, propose modification model accounting peak outside study domain reflect these situations. Biogeographic origin was more decisive location than taxonomic or life-form classification, indicating relatively low climatic niche conservatism plants.

Species richness and altitude: a comparison between null models and interpolated plant species richness along the Himalayan altitudinal gradient, Nepal.

We compare different null models for species richness patterns in the Nepalese Himalayas, the largest altitudinal gradient in the world. Species richness is estimated by interpolation of presences between the extreme recorded altitudinal ranges. The number of species in 100-m altitudinal bands increases steeply with altitude until 1,500 m above sea level. Between 1,500 and 2,500 m, little chang...

Climate-Induced Elevational Range Shifts and Increase in Plant Species Richness in a Himalayan Biodiversity Epicentre

Global average temperature increase during the last century has induced species geographic range shifts and extinctions. Montane floras, in particular, are highly sensitive to climate change and mountains serve as suitable observation sites for tracing climate-induced biological response. The Himalaya constitute an important global biodiversity hotspot, yet studies on species' response to clima...

Midpoint attractors and species richness: Modelling the interaction between environmental drivers and geometric constraints.

We introduce a novel framework for conceptualising, quantifying and unifying discordant patterns of species richness along geographical gradients. While not itself explicitly mechanistic, this approach offers a path towards understanding mechanisms. In this study, we focused on the diverse patterns of species richness on mountainsides. We conjectured that elevational range midpoints of species ...

Spatial scale and the determinants of plant species richness.

Traditional ecological theory has stressed the importance of competitive interactions in regulating species richness. Recent research has transcended this viewpoint by considering the role of stochastic processes, mosaic phenomena and nonequilibrium conditions in the regulation of richness. This growing body of work indicates that the determinants of plant species richness may vary predictably ...

Modeling of species richness by macro ecological methods (MEM) and Stacked Species Distribution Models (S-SDM) in Rangelands

Species richness is a simple and interpretable indicator of biodiversity and is one of the most important and and practical measurements in the rangeland ecosystems. Experimental models of richness are used to determine the points of richness of suitable and unsuitable species, and the factors affecting it. The aim of this study is to compare two methods of modeling species richness S-SDM and M...
